The municipal district of Itacaré occupies
one area of 730 km2 with about 20 thousand
inhabitants. 60% of the population live
in the rural zone. Old port of cocoa trade,
the city lives today of the fishing and
of the tourism.

During
many years, the difficult access - more than
50 km of earth highway - it maintained Itacaré
out of the time. In 1998 it was finished the
asphalt highway that ties Islanders Itacaré,
space of BA-001 o'clock that travels the coast
from Bahia. |

Happily, the tourism
is still not very developed. The high station
doesn't last more than two months. A lot of
beaches continue deserted during most of the
year. Itacaré continues being the lovers'
of the nature refuge, of the surf, of the
capoeira and of authentic Bahia. |

beaches and of hills
covered by forests and coqueirais.
